It’s a new time and era for Realtors. In the past people have picked real estate agents typically by referral. I’ve found that most people looking for a Realtor have often gone to a reliable source to obtain a referral, they’re parents. This mentality is logical, but sometimes not beneficial.
It’s a different market than when your parents bought their homes or when you bought or sold your first home. The current market is in no way stagnant contrary to what the news tells us. There are homes for sale, but with the influx of Short Sales and Bank Owned Homes, writing the proper offer and obtaining the relevant information is imperative to getting the home of your choice. It does take some doing. Very seldom is your first offer accepted.
In a traditional market, buyers could wait to collect several homes in their “would like to see bin.” However, in this market, buyers need to react quickly and the agent should lead the way! Agent research and persistence will guide the buyers to an accepted offer and successful close. I encourage buyers to obtain a Realtor they are comfortable with, one who communicates the way you do. For example, are they quick to answer your emails? Are they managing the homes you’ve seen and would like to see? Are they getting you timely, accurate information? Are they answering your questions and making you a priority? Do they live and work in a world which takes advantage of today’s technology? Which helps facilitate a speedy offer and smoother process. Does your agent have a fax? Simple, huh? Times are changing, so the agent your parents used may not be the agent that suits you best, do your own research and find someone you are comfortable with.
